What is Butcher Box

Butcher Box connects with local farmers that raise grass-fed and finished beef, Heritage pork, Organic free-range chicken and Alaskan Salmon that was caught in the wild.

After this, they distribute these quality products to their customers and deliver them frozen to their doorsteps.

Butcher Box is a monthly subscription that will deliver the meat box you choose to your doorsteps around the same time every month.

Their philosophy and checklist mention that all animals should be humanely raised, have never had any antibiotics or hormones and are of high quality.

The facilities are based on the DR. Temple Grandin methods who was a member of the human farm animal care program scientific committee. The facilities are inspected and approved by the USDA or an agency that can be compared to that.

They have several boxes to choose from and I will dig a lot deeper in that later.

How much does Butcher Box cost

hand that holds 20 dollar bills

Before I even start mentioning prices you have to realize that the Butcher Box is not cheap.

If you compare it to your local supermarket that sells feeding lot raised beef and pork that comes from large operations or even a chicken from a factory you will be disappointed.

The meat from the Butcher box comes from farms where the animals live the way they are supposed to live.

Roaming free and eating a natural diet without hormones and antibiotics. This means that they gain weight at a slower pass. Even for farmers time is money.

Let’s have a look at an average price and how much this would be per meal.

Pros and Cons of Butcher Box

2 puppets with thumbs up and thumbs down

I wrote in an earlier part of this Butcher box review that Butcher Box is not for everyone.

If you can buy your grass-fed beef, heritage pork and free-range chicken locally you will pay a lot less.

Butcher box’s real value can only be determined by taking the factor time into consideration.

By using the Butcher box you pay for quality and convenience.

If you had to look for this type of meat and the great proteins it comes with you probably have to stop by at a health store or specialized butcher.

I have found that there is a price difference between these stores and most meat delivery services. Although lower in price, compared to Butcher Box they are not worth my time to drive to there.

This shopping costs a lot of time and here is where the convenience comes in. I’d rather be home and spend time with my wife and family than running from store to store.

What is not so great is that you have to deal with all the packaging material. There is also a chance that the box can be damaged during transport. Not that I have heard that a lot. In that case, you have to deal with crediting your account or get a replacement.

The box can have more or less meat in it than you need for a particular moth. Good thing is that you can change how many times you like to have your box delivered.

Butcher Box Pros:

  • High-quality meat.
  • Very tasty meat.
  • Very convenient.
  • Time saver.
  • It can save money on gas.

Butcher Box Cons:

  • Pricey.
  • Package material.
  • It can come damaged.

I could end here with my Butcher Box review since I have covered the basics and most pros and cons.

There is however more to tell about this quality meat delivery service and I like to be as thorough as possible and provide you with all the information.

FAQ about Butcher Box

I found a lot of questions that people ask about the butcher box and here I will answer the most common ones for you.

Is Butcher Box worth the money

Although this is hard to answer since it depends on your specific situation I believe that it is worth the money.

My reasoning is that it is quality meat and a huge time saver since it is delivered right to your door.

Where does Butcher Box get their meat

I answered this in the first part of this article but maybe you missed that.

The meat is sourced from local farms that are hand-picked and these farms have to raise their cows, pigs, and chicken in a human and organic way.

That means that they can’t be raised with antibiotics or hormones and have to be able to live the way it is mended to be. Roaming on a pasture and eat their natural food.

Who delivers Butcher Box

All meat is shipped with FedEx and you do not have to be home since a signature is not required.

This makes it very easy and you do not have to plan your time to receive your meat box.

How long does Butcher Box to deliver

It depends if this is your first order or your recurring order.

After ordering the first time it takes an average of 2 – 3 days to prepare your box and make it ready for shipping.

A recurring order will start after you get your email reminder and then it takes a day to prepare it and 2 – 3 days to box your meat.

After all this, it takes 3 – 5 business days for your order to be delivered to your doorsteps.

Every month your order will be shipped around the same time. Keep an eye on your email box for the confirmation and shipping details.

Will my Butcher Box meat still be frozen

The packaging that the butcher box uses will keep the meat frozen.

In my research, I could only find very few complaints that the meat was not totally frozen when it arrived.

The box is are stuffed with dry ice and a nice layer of insulation.

Can you pause, cancel or change your Butcher Box

The answer to this is a simple yes. You can pause your ButcherBox subscription for up to 6 months.

If you like to cancel all you have to do is cancel before your new order is billed.

The same goes for making changes to your meat box. Before your billing, you can basically make any changes you like.

Is Butcher Box grass-fed

Although I have answered this question already I like to address it to her again.

All beef in the butcher boxes is grass-fed and finished. This means that they are not fed any grain or other food they normally would not eat in the wild.

This almost automatically means that they will also have to lead a very human life and not been cooped up in small confined spaces.

My opinion about Butcher Box

Barn door with mailbox on it

After doing all the research and reading for this butcher box review I like to summarize it here for if you don’t like to read the whole page.

Butcher Box is a high-quality meat delivery service with very high standards to where their meat comes from.

All farms they use are going through a strict check before added to their service. All meat is completely natural and fresh and the animals lived a human life.

Prices are higher than in your local grocery store but in most cases, in those stores, the meat is not organic, grass-fed or even natural.

You pay for the convenience of having your meat delivered directly to your door and this comes with a price tag. It can, however, save you a lot of time shopping and driving back and forth to the stores.

If you have anything to ask or to add to my Butcher Box review feel free to leave it in the comments below.
