4 health boosting trail mixes

A trail mix is more than just a satisfying snack. The right mix of ingredients can boost your mind and body.
I found these recipes on Dr. Oz magazine and thought I would share them with you.

I love a good trail mix but was not aware that a certain mix of ingredients would be more supportive for certain activities or time of the day like the gym or getting sleepy at night.

If you like your nuts or seeds a little more crispy spread them on baking sheet and and put it in the oven at 375 Fahrenheit and stir once in a while till golden brown.
Will take about 3 minutes. Tip:Pumpkin seeds should be done in a skillet instead of the oven.

Here are the 4 health boosting trail mixes

In a hurry trail mix

  • 1/2 cup chopped Brazil nuts toasted
  • 1/2 cup shelled sunflower seeds
  • 1/2 cup Walnuts toasted
  • 1/2 cup Kale chips
  • Beef jerky

About 146 calories per serving.

This mix contains meat and vegetables like in a meal. Protein packed from the meat and the veggies. Try to find the jerky from grass fed beef. Great mix for if you get busy. Improves your alertness.

Boost your brain trail mix

  • 3/4 cup roasted almond
  • 3/4 cup shelled pumpkin seeds
  • 1/2 cup dark chocolate
  • 1 tsp coarse salt

About 181 calories per serving

This brain booster mix offers nutrients that are associated with improving memory. It also contains zinc, vitamin E, and the so much needed healthy fats. Improves your alertness.

After work out trail mix

  • 3/4 cup of peanuts
  • 3/4 cup pecans
  • 1/2 tsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp course salt
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon

Aboout 211 calories per serving.

This mix contains a lot of anti-inflammatory spices like turmeric and ginger. The triple nuts in this mix will help you recover from a work out faster and will probably help fight muscle soreness.

Trail mix for better sleep

  • 1/2 cup air popped popcorn
  • 1/2 cup dries tart cherries
  • 1/4 cup coarse salt

about 54 calories per serving.

Best snack before bed time. Ingredients are linked to compounds that help you regulate your sleep better.

My two cents about trail mixes

Like I mentioned I like trail mixes and I eat at least a small handful dry roasted peanuts with sea salt almost every day.

Coarse sea salt is one of the salts that does not get a lot of processing. Sea salt comes with 82 traces of nutrients and although it is said that the percentage are very low I believe that every little bit will help us.

The benefits of nuts are well known. Did you know that nuts are considered a fruit. The contain unsaturated fats, omega 3 fatty acids, fibers and many vitamins.
